OILY SKIN GUIDE TO SUMMER SKINCARE

ANNA BASCOM on MAY 21, 2019

I’m putting this out there. I’m not a fan of summer.

Why? Because I have sensitive, red, acne-prone, oily skin, which is amplified by hot, humid weather. If you turn into the love child of an oil slick and tomato in summer, I’m here to share my top 5 tips and product recommendations to help you beat the heat (and sweat) this summer.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT BLOTTING PAPER

You’ll want to practice blotting off excess oils and sweat as often as you can. I have seen plenty of Do-it-yourself hacks using toilet seat covers in restrooms as blotting paper, but personally, I would rather not.

The Too Cool for School blotting papers have been my oily skin savior for years now. The papers are come in three different varieties: Mulberry, Charcoal, and Green Tea. They come in a little water and purse-grime resistant case and a little mirror for blotting on the go!

I’ve tried all variations and they all receive high marks for ease and efficacy from this oily-skinned lady. But, I especially love the Green Tea blotting papers because they are made from Chinese yam paper enriched with green tea leaves.

SAY HELLO TO THE DOUBLE CLEANSE.

The most crucial time for you to continue or to pick up the double cleansing habit is during summer. The increase in sweat on your face can combine forces with the daily pollution your skin encounters creating a cesspool of dirt, oil, grime, and sunscreen that can wreak havoc on your skin. Ensure your beauty sleep and nighttime skincare routine can be at optimum efficacy by utilizing the partnership of an Oil Based Cleanser and a low pH water-based cleanser.

CULT FAVORITE OIL-BASED CLEANSERS

CULT FAVORITE CLEANSERS

My favorite duo: Heimish All Clean Balm and the Simplistic Begin Cleanser (made with peppermint and honey)

DO SKIP YOUR FACE CREAM.

I don’t mean skipping hydration altogether, but I do mean skip any creams, serums, oils, essences that do not leave your skin dry-ish to the touch after a few minutes after application. Leave those emollient textures for nighttime or for when the weather is cooler. You can also try skipping moisturizer in your multi-step routine or just skip your T-zone.

CULT FAVORITE MOISTURIZERS

I personally love the Missha Time Revolution Immortal Youth Moisturizer. While not an oil-free formula, the lightweight gel seeps into my skin almost instantly and provides me with daytime anti-aging benefits.

DON’T SKIP THE SUNSCREEN.

As an oily skinned person, I understand the heavy temptation to skip your sunscreen on extremely hot days. The last thing you want is a musky, sticky layer, or goop on your skin. But sun protection is important! Overcome temptation by finding a sunscreen formula that is lightweight and something you want to put on your face.

SOME CULT FAVORITE SUNSCREENS THAT ARE LIGHT AND EFFECTIVE

Last year I also discovered the Nature Republic Ice Sun Sunscreen, SPF 50. This SPF is a nice cool breeze, almost literally. The sunscreen comes with an aerosol type pump and a cushion puff. The pump chills the sunscreen as it dispenses to give you a nice chilled application of sunscreen on bare skin or over makeup.

But, my go-to sunscreen would be the IPKN Big Apple Sun Cream. It provides oil-free, color correcting, calming, perfecting sun protection. How could I want for anything else?

DON’T PANIC!

In the event you end up with a summer breakout, here are a few of my rescue products.

  • When Creamy Mud Pore Clarifying and Minimizing Face Mask – This mask contains peppermint oil, Amazonian Clay, and tons of antioxidants to cool and detoxify the skin without tightening or cracking over sensitive skin. It feels super refreshing and I walk away with radiant skin.
  • Medicube – Zero Pore Pad AHA/BHA- Using a gentle chemical/physical exfoliant can help to clean out the pores, remove dead skin cells, and increases my skin turnover (interpreted as shorter breakouts).
  • COSRX Pimple Patches – In the event of a juicy whitehead or you had a moment of weakness and popped a pimple, using a pimple-patch will help draw out the impurities and protect the pimple from outside irritants.

I hope this list of tips and products can help you enjoy a stress-free, protected-from-the-sun, skin-confident summer holiday.

Spam I have now purchased these oils, I must say they are perfect, especially as summer is just starting I hope I don't manage to damage my skin. By the way I have to say that several years ago my mother told me that I should not use her cream, this led to some skin damage and now as a schoolgirl I have to say that we are passing Henry David Thoreau's theme and I learned from here https://paperap.com/free-papers/henry-david-thoreau/ that in fact this behavior is normal and in fact children are very interested in mature things, but the point is that we have to take care of ourselves, because this will happen in the future. Now I understand my mother so well.
