A lot of confusion surrounds the products we know as an ‘essence’.

With the emphasis in the beauty world trending towards “skincare before makeup’, you may be sitting on some great products with no idea how or when to use them. A lot of confusion surrounds the products we know as an ‘essence’.
The first product to follow a toner in a routine is an essence. An essence is basically a thin, watery serum. What purpose can a watery serum possibly have? Remember, a thick product does not necessarily mean more moisture. Look at hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid packs a punch by holding onto the water to keep your skin moisturized.
The answer is hydration. Lots of thin, hydrating layers are the key to glowing skin. Each layer can have its own set of yummy ingredients. An essence is the beginning of that process. You need to prep your skin to better absorb the rest of your products in your routine. When your skin is slightly wet, it can better absorb your products and pull them deeper into your skin. Pulling your products deeper in your skin will make them more effective and put those amazing ingredients to work.
So where do you start? Sometimes you need to try a few to find one you like. I like having a couple of difference essences to choose from. My luxe choice for myself is Lancome Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Moisturizing Beauty Facial Essence. My favorite cost effective essence is a toss up between the Isntree Clear Skin 8% AHA Essence or the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner. Make sure you give products from different price points a chance. You never know what will be the best choice for your skin until you try!
