ECO-FRIENDLY & GREEN K-BEAUTY

PRODUCTS TO LOVE

CHEN TENG  on FEBRUARY 2, 2020

Many major beauty brands these days recognize the need to create “natural”, “cruelty-free”, and “paraben-free” products. While it is a more recent trend, these green products have now become more readily available, even in the world of Korean beauty. Despite the growing (abundance/availability/range) of options, it’s still important to do your research before purchasing to understand the commitment of each brand if you plan to use their products. To help out in your search, we have compiled some K-beauty products that have made the effort to create natural products that you can feel good about using.

Primera Alpine Berry Watery Cream

All Primera products are made while keeping nature in mind. This means the products are free of parabens, animal-derived ingredients, synthetics, and even artificial fragrances. The products all have a plant-infused focus best seen in their best-seller, the ‘Alpine Berry Watery Cream’. This is a gel-cream that helps to heavily hydrate the skin. With base ingredients of antioxidant-rich wild alpine strawberries and blackberries, it is no wonder that this product has been able to garner its own cult following.

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask Original

One of Korea’s first natural cosmetics brands, Innisfree is one of the most famous commercial beauty brands on the scene. Many of their products use ingredients locally sourced from the Korean island Jeju. For starters, their well known ‘Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask’ utilizes volcanic clusters formed from hardened lava found off the island. The clusters have similar properties to charcoal where they help to detoxify harmful elements, making them a perfect ingredient for a clay mask. The clay mask is free from any parabens, ethanol, animal ingredients, and artificial pigments.

Caolion Peace Water Aqua Drop Gel Night Mask

Coalion is one of the pioneering brands of the natural K-beauty scene. This brand claims to have been one of the first to create products that did not contain coloring, fragrances, or any alcohol. The ‘Peace Water Aqua Drop Gel Night Mask’ is an example of their amazing products that do not contain any additives. The gel mask focuses on natural ingredients that contain capsules of hyaluronic acid, marine collagen, and plant extracts from Centella Asiatica, the Arnica Montana flower, and chamomile.

Aromatica Rose Absolute First Serum

Aromatica is a Korean brand famous currently for creating fantastic organic and all-natural skincare products. They have even received the EWG’s Skin-deep Champion Status, an award given to toxin-free beauty brands. You will also find that many of their products are vegan as well. Their much-loved rose product line contains the ‘Rose Absolute First Serum’. This serum is rich in Bulgarian damask rose oil, aloe extracts, and antioxidant berry extracts to help your skin with maintained hydration while also providing anti-aging benefits.

Cosrx Balancium B5 D-Panthenol Ampoule

Cosrx is a brand that has slowly made a name for itself in the Kbeauty market over the years. All Cosrx products are cruelty-free, paraben-free and many of them are vegan as well. With a name like ‘Balancium B5 D-Panthenol Ampoule’, you might be hesitant to try due to all the technical ingredient terms but it means that your skin will feel moisturized and stronger. Along with hyaluronic acid, the d-panthenol and vitamin B5’s purpose is to regenerate your skin’s natural barrier, balance out any irritated skin, all-the-while deeply hydrating your face. All 29 ingredients in the ampoule are EWG Green grade and contain no artificial fragrances.

Spam That's all lovely and it's a start, but the change I'd really like to see is the packaging of k-beauty products... So much plastic! I wish the brands would at least sell refills before a better alternative comes around, especially for toners, essences and oil cleansers, which already come in larger bottles (much like j-beauty does already).
