Oh, you already guessed what I am about to say, didn't you? Yep, this all-time hyped, everyone's favorite sunscreen did not play well with my skin in this hot climate. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, so let’s see what happened.

Product Overview: SKIN1004 Centella is a chemical sunscreen, so there is no issue with a white cast. It contains centella, a soothing ingredient, which intrigued me to try it—besides all the hype, of course!

Weather I live in: Very hot, sometimes humid, but mostly dry.

My skin type: Combination to oily (I do not wear make-up).

Skin concerns: Soothing, anti-aging, sunspots.

Experience with SKIN1004 Centella Sunscreen:

Dry Days:

  • First Try: I tried this sunscreen for the first time on a dry day, just after washing my face, without any toner, essence, serum or moisturizer. The sunscreen seemed to sit well on my face with a shininess that I did not mind (after all, it was shiny, not greasy). But wait, what’s that on my neck? Are these white streaks? Oh no! The sunscreen developed white streaks, after a while.
  • Another Dry Day: This time, I applied my regular serums (SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule and Jumiso All Day Vitamin Brightening & Balancing Serum) after washing my face and then the sunscreen. I wanted to continue my regular skincare routine and not skip everything just to apply sunscreen. And voila! Now the sunscreen decided to show its hidden self. It made my whole face oily. Disheartened, I waited for one hour to see if the oiliness would go away. It did for the cheeks but not for the T-zone. The oiliness stayed put for hours. This is a major problem if you wear glasses like me, as they keep sliding down my nose.

Humid Days:

  • Do I even need to tell you what happened when I put on this sunscreen on a humid day? Yes? Okay, let’s see. I applied the sunscreen directly after washing my face without using any moisturizer. Sadly, it still made me look greasy. The greasiness did not settle on my cheeks, let alone my T-zone, and my face remained greasy all day long.

Experience with Reapplication:

Dry Days:

  • Reapplication resulted in a greasy face and white streaks on my neck.

Humid Days:

  • I did not even bother reapplying on humid days, knowing that it would be a disco ball disaster!

Overall Thoughts:

  • This sunscreen is very easy to blend, just like butter.
  • Using it on my damaged barrier caused a burning sensation; however, it does not sting my eyes, which is good news compared with other chemical sunscreens that stung my eyes. I can apply it on my eyelids.
  • I will continue to use it because it is less greasy compared to other chemical sunscreens I use in this hot climate.
  • The experience with this sunscreen depends on the weather. In an air-conditioned room during hot, humid days, it might be different, potentially leaving a non-greasy finish. Without air conditioning, it can turn into a greasy nightmare. I won't repurchase it because I have found better options that are suitable for this hot climate.
