I feel like because shade #2 is looks more warm toned and is darker, no people are afraid to try it. I think it looks really natural though. It doesn't look red at all. It's great for nose shading and contouring. (Works for shade 21 and 23 for sure.) You can also mix it with a light ashy grey for an even more natural contour.
